Catherine Of Bourbon
Catherine of Bourbon (7 February 1559 – 13 February 1604) was a Navarrese regent princess. She was the daughter of Queen Joan III and King Anthony of Navarre. She ruled the principality of Béarn in the name of her brother, King Henry III of Navarre, from 1576 until 1596. Early life Catherine was born on 7 February 1559 to Jeanne d'Albret, Queen of Navarre and her co-ruler, Antoine of Bourbon. She was named after her godmother, the French queen Catherine de' Medici. Jeanne converted to Calvinism a year after Catherine's birth and declared it the official religion of the Kingdom of Navarre. Antoine, conversely, remained a Catholic and turned against his wife and threatened to divorce her. He died fighting for the Catholic cause on 17 November 1562. Catherine was with her mother and elder brother, Henry, as they fought for the Protestant cause. Charles Beaubrun
Charles Beaubrun (Charles Bobrun) (1604–1692) was a French portrait painter active in Paris between 1630 and 1670. Life Charles Beaubrun was born at Amboise, a member of a distinguished family of painters. He studied under his uncle Louis Beaubrun (d. 1627). He and his cousin Henri Beaubrun (II) (1603–1677), were portrait painters in the courts of King Louis XIII of France, Louis XIII and Louis XIV of France. Some of his work is jointly attributed to Henri. His youngest brother, Michel Beaubrun (d 1642), was also a painter. Charles Beaubrun died at Paris. Work Beaubrun made many portraits of the reigning French queens, painting according to the prevailing court conventions. Thus certain similarities are evident between his portrait of Maria Theresa of Spain (Maria Theresa, Infanta of Spain), queen to Louis XIV, and an earlier portrait of Anne of Austria, queen to his father Louis XIII (both shown here) even wearing the same regal gowns. Philippe Habert
Philippe Habert (1604 – 26 July 1637) was a French poet. Habert was born in Paris and was the brother to Germain Habert and cousin of Henri Louis Habert de Montmor, as well as a friend of Valentin Conrart. Philippe was also one of the first members of the Académie française, and contributed to editing its statutes. An artillery captain, he was killed aged 25 at Aimeries in Belgium, when a wall fell on him as a result of the explosion of a munitions depot in Hainaut. Pierre Thierry
Pierre Thierry (1604–1665) was the founder of the Thierry dynasty of organ builders of Paris, France. Biography Thierry was born in Paris. He was the son of a Shoemaking, cobbler. At the age of seventeen he became a servant of the organist Florent Bienvenu. He apprenticed with the best known organists at that time, first Valéran de Héman and then Crespin Carlier, with whom he became a partner for a while. He assisted Carlier at Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs between 1634 and 1635, when he branched out on his own. In 1636 he married Marguerite Leclerc, sister of the organist at the Grands Augustins church. She gave him a son in 1642 who was named Charles in honor of his godfather, Charles Racquet, the famous organist of Notre Dame de Paris. With the successive deaths or retirement of Crespin Carlier, Pierre Le Pescheur (1636) and Valéran de Héman (1641) Pierre Thierry became able to dominate the Parisian market. Louis, Count Of Soissons
Louis de Bourbon, Comte de Soissons (May 1604 – 6 July 1641) was the son of Charles de Bourbon, Count of Soissons and Anne de Montafié. A second cousin of Louis XIII of France he was a '' prince du Sang'', those considered part of the Royal family. Part of the faction who opposed Cardinal Richelieu and his policy of war with Spain, he was killed leading a revolt at the Battle of La Marfée in 1641. Louis was made governor of the Dauphiné province (1612), an office inherited at the death of his father, and later governor of the Champagne province (1631). Simon Le Moyne
Father Simon Le Moyne, S.J. (22 October 1604 – 24 November 1665) was a Jesuit priest who became involved with the mission to the Hurons in the New World. Le Moyne had 16 years of education and experience in the priesthood in France before his arrival in Quebec in 1638. During that same year, he headed out to his mission in Huron country. The destruction of the Huron nation by the Iroquois brought him back to Quebec in 1650. He undertook numerous missions to the Iroquois at great risk to his personal safety. He is most notable in Canadian history for his work as an ambassador of peace to the Iroquois. Biography Simon Le Moyne was born at Beauvais, France in 1604. He entered the Jesuit novitiate at Rouen on 10 December 1622 and studied philosophy at the Collège de Clermont in Paris (1624–27). He taught at Rouen from 1627 to 1632.
