14 de Julho is a partially collapsed hydroelectric dam, formerly with around 100 MW of power, that is located in the Das Antas River between the municipalities of Cotiporã and Bento Gonçalves in Brazil. The dam had an estimated capacity of 55.18 million cubic meters before its collapse. Its construction project started in 2004 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 2008. Collapse On May 2, 2024, the dam partially collapsed during heavy rains. After the collapse, the region has since been declared a state of emergency by Rio Grande do Sul state governor Eduardo Leite, and the Civil Defense issued a statement warning residents in regions around the Taquari River to leave their homes. Bento Gonçalves () is a municipality located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Created in 1875, it is one of the centers of the Italian immigration in Brazil. Eduardo Figueiredo Cavalheiro Leite (born 10 March 1985) is a Brazilian politician and governor of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. During the state's 2018 election, he won with 53.62% of the vote. Leite was elected governor at 33 years old, becoming the youngest governor in Brazil. Taquari River
The Taquari River ( pt, Rio Taquari) is a river in the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil. It is a left tributary of the Paraguay River. The town of Coxim is situated on the Taquari. The Taquari River is considered the most degraded river in the pantanal basin of Mato Grosso do Sul. The headwaters of the river are protected by the Nascentes do Rio Taquari State Park, created in 1999.
