11th Motor Transport Battalion
The 11th Motor Transport Battalion (11th MTB) was a logistics unit of the United States Marine Corps active from 1966 to 1971. History On 7 December 1966 most of the battalion embarked at San Diego aboard the for South Vietnam, via Naha, Okinawa. An advance party arrived by air at Danang Air Base on 17 December. The battalion arrived into Danang Harbor on 29 December, offloaded onto the Red Beach Base Area and by nightfall had established its compound. The battalion was placed under the operational control of the 1st Marine Division. On 18 January 1967, after all its heavy equipment had been brought ashore, the battalion began operations in support of 1st Division units. On 1 July 1967 a battalion MRC-109 radio jeep hit a mine killing two Marines. On 8 July a battalion M54 truck hit a mine while delivering supplies to the 2nd Battalion 5th Marines on Hill 63 resulting in one Marine killed. The M116 Husky was a tracked amphibious cargo carrier/marginal terrain vehicle that served with the United States Marine Corps. Design The M116 was a lightweight low-silhouette vehicle designed to transport cargo or personnel over unimproved roads, loose sand, soft marshy terrain and inland waterways. Its low ground pressure of when fully loaded gave good mobility on marginal terrain. The M116 was designed by Pacific Car and Foundry as a replacement for the M76 Otter. Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow is a United States Marine Corps supply and maintenance installation located in the Mojave Desert east of Barstow, in San Bernardino County, Southern California. XM174 Grenade Launcher
The XM174 is a mounted automatic 40mm grenade launcher heavily based on the M1919A4 machine gun and the M79 grenade launcher, but fed from an ammo can. It was used in the Vietnam War as a tripod mounted crew-served weapon and as a weapon mounted on various vehicles and aircraft. The XM174 has the same fire control group as the M1919A4. The ammunition was held in a drum canister with a maximum capacity of twelve 40 mm rounds. The launcher was also capable of semi-automatic fire. U.S. Air Force Security Police personnel in Vietnam were also issued the XM174 automatic grenade launcher which was often used on perimeter defense posts and heavy weapons vehicles. PPSh-41
The PPSh-41 () is a Soviet submachine gun designed by Georgy Shpagin as a cheaper and simplified alternative to the PPD-40. A common Russian nickname for the weapon is "''papasha''" (), meaning "daddy", and it was sometimes called the "burp gun" because of its high fire-rate. The PPSh is a magazine-fed selective-fire submachine gun using an open bolt, blowback action. Made largely of stamped steel, it can be loaded with either a box or drum magazine and fires the 7.62×25mm Tokarev pistol round.
