The Álftanes men's basketball team, commonly known as Álftanes, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélag Álftaness. It was founded in 2007. Recent history 2017–2018 On April 8, 2018, Álftanes star player, Kjartan Atli Kjartansson, hit a go-ahead three-pointer in the waning seconds of its game against Stál-úlfur in the 3. deild karla semi-finals, helping them to victory and promotion to 2. deild karla. In the finals, Álftanes beat Vestri-b for the 3. deild championship. 2018–2019 On July 20, 2018, the club hired Hrafn Kristjánsson, who guided KR to the national championship in 2011, as its head coach. Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup
The Icelandic Women's Basketball Cup (Icelandic: Bikarkeppni KKÍ), also known as VÍS bikarinn for sponsorship reasons, is an annual basketball competition between clubs in Iceland. It is Iceland's first-tier cup competition, and is not to be confused with Iceland's former second-tier cup competition, the Company Cup. History and format The first edition of the Icelandic Women's Cup championship took place in 1975, and was won by Þór Akureyri. All the rounds are played with a single game knockout format. The final four and the finals are played on a single weekend. Finally, the winner of the Icelandic Cup championship, or the runner-up if the same team wins both the cup and national championship, will then face the winner of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna championship in a single game to determine the winner of the Icelandic Supercup championship in the beginning of the next season. Haukur Helgi Briem Pálsson (born 18 May 1992) is an Icelandic basketball player for Úrvalsdeild karla club Álftanes and the Icelandic national team. With Iceland, he participated at the EuroBasket in 2015 and 2017. High school Haukur played one year of high school basketball in the United States at Montverde Academy under Kevin Sutton. Club career Haukur came up through the junior ranks of Fjölnir and was first brought up to the senior team during the 2006-2007 Úrvalsdeild karla season when he was an unused substitute in seven games. During the 2007–2008 season he appeared in nine games in the Úrvalsdeild karla for Fjölnir, averaging 1.0 points. Njarðvík Men's Basketball
The Njarðvík men's basketball team, commonly known as Njarðvík or UMFN, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur, based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. It is one of the most successful men's team in Icelandic basketball, winning 17 national championships. The team, then known as Íþróttafélag Keflavíkurflugvallar (ÍKF), was one of the founding members of the Icelandic top league in 1952 and won the first Icelandic men's championship that same year.
