'Api Taufa
'Api Taufa is a Tongan New Zealander netball player who has represented Tonga internationally. She plays for the Central Manawa. She is the sister of netballer Salote Taufa. Education Taufa was educated at Newlands College. In 2016 she was part of the championship-winning Wellington under-19 tournament team. She was then selected for the New Zealand under-19 netball team. In November 2016 she was selected as a trialist for the New Zealand Under-21 netball team. Career In 2016 she was selected for the Central Manawa. In 2020 she ruptured her Achilles tendon. In February 2022 she was selected for the Central Manawa for the 2022 season. Tongan New Zealanders
Tongan New Zealanders are Tongan immigrants in New Zealand, their descendants, and New Zealanders of Tongan ethnic descent. They constitute one of New Zealand's most sizeable ethnic minorities. In the 2013 census, 60,336 New Zealanders identified themselves as being of Tongan ethnicity with 22,413 stating that they were born in Tonga. Demographics There were 82,389 people identifying as being part of the Tongan ethnic group at the 2018 New Zealand census, making up 1.7% of New Zealand's population. This is an increase of 22,056 people (36.6%) since the 2013 census, and an increase of 31,911 people (63.2%) since the 2006 census. Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. Central Manawa are a New Zealand netball team based in Wellington. Since 2016 they have represented Netball Central in the National Netball League. Netball Central is the governing body that represents the Hawke's Bay, Manawatū-Whanganui, Taranaki and Wellington Regions. They are effectively the reserve team of Central Pulse. Newlands College is a state coeducational secondary school located in the Wellington, New Zealand suburb of Newlands. Tonga National Netball Team
The Tonga national netball team ( to, timi netipolo fakafonua ʻa Tonga) represents Tonga in international women's netball. Although netball has been played in Tonga, they joined the International Netball Federation in 2011. Tonga won bronze at the South Pacific Games in 1983, 1991 and 1995. On 21 July 2019, Tonga Re-entered at nineteenth in the INF World Rankings. In June 2022 the team was renamed the Tonga Tala. They were undefeated at the 2023 Oceania Netball World Cup Qualifiers, and qualified for the 2023 Netball World Cup. Following the qualifiers they were ranked 9th in the world. The Oceania Netball World Cup Qualifiers was held on July 19-23, 2022. The event was hosted by Fiji and took place in Suva where the hosts welcomed Tonga, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and the Cook Islands.
