''$1,000,000 Worth of Twang'' is a compilation album by guitarist Duane Eddy. Chart performance The album was released in 1960 on Jamie Records (catalog no. JLP-70-3014). It entered ''Billboard'' magazine's pop album chart on December 26, 1960, peaked at No. 10, and remained on the chart for nine weeks. It was one of only two Duane Eddy albums to enter the top 10, the other being ''Have 'Twangy' Guitar Will Travel''. The popularity of the album led to the 1961 release of "$1,000,000 Worth of Twang, Vol. II". Reviews At the time of its release in November 1960, music reviewer Gee Mitchell wrote: "'$1,000,000 Worth of Twang' (Jamie) stirs up action aplenty on things like ' Rebel Rouser', 'Moovin' and Groovin',' and 'Because They're Young.' But, better turn the volume down a notch or two." AllMusic gave the album a rating of four-and-a-half stars, with reviewer Cub Koda calling it a "solid best-of collection". Duane Eddy
Duane Eddy (born April 26, 1938) is an American rock and roll guitarist. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had a string of hit records produced by Lee Hazlewood, which were noted for their characteristically "twangy" sound, including "Rebel-'Rouser", "Peter Gunn", and "Because They're Young". He had sold 12 million records by 1963. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2008. Early life Eddy was born in Corning, New York. He began playing the guitar at the age of five. In 1951, his family moved to Tucson, and then to Coolidge, Arizona. At the age of 16 he formed a duo, Jimmy and Duane, with his friend Jimmy Delbridge (who later recorded as Jimmy Dell). Career While performing at local radio station KCKY, they met disc jockey Lee Hazlewood, who produced the duo's single, "Soda Fountain Girl", recorded and released in 1955 in Phoenix. Michael "Cub" Koda (born October 1, 1948 – July 1, 2000) was an American rock and roll singer, guitarist, songwriter, disc jockey, music critic, and record compiler. ''Rolling Stone'' magazine considered him best known for writing the song " Smokin' in the Boys Room", recorded by Brownsville Station, which reached number 3 on the 1974 Billboard chart. He co-wrote and edited the ''All Music Guide to the Blues'', and ''Blues for Dummies'', and selected a version of each of the classic blues songs on the CD accompanying the book.
