Taiwanese Hakka
Taiwanese Hakka is a language group consisting of Hakka dialects spoken in Taiwan, and mainly used by people of Hakka ancestry. Taiwanese Hakka is divided into five main dialects: Sixian, Hailu, Dabu, Raoping, and Zhao'an. The most widely spoken of the five Hakka dialects in Taiwan are Sixian and Hailu. The former, possessing 6 tones, originates from Meizhou, Guangdong, and is mainly spoken in Miaoli, Pingtung and Kaohsiung, while the latter, possessing 7 tones, originates from Haifeng and Lufeng, Guangdong, and is concentrated around Hsinchu. Taiwanese Hakka is also officially listed as one of the national languages of Taiwan. In addition to the five main dialects, there are the northern Xihai dialect and the patchily-distributed Yongding, Fengshun, Wuping, Wuhua, and Jiexi dialects. Zhao'an Dialect
Zhao'an () is a county in the municipal region of Zhangzhou, southernmost Fujian province, People's Republic of China. History Qing dynasty to the Republic of China In May 1907, county officials arrested, on suspicion of piracy, the local leaders of a movement called the "White Fan". They escaped, rallied their followers, captured the top mandarin, and killed the sheriff. 30,000 strong, they menaced Chaozhou. The anti-dynastic rebels had been gaining in popular support in the Minnan-speaking south of Fujian since 1906; local government soldiers would not fight them. Qing troops were dispatched from Fuzhou and Guangzhou, capitals of the two affected provinces. Engaging the rebels at the end of the month, they killed 600. Raoping Dialect
Raoping Hakka (; Taiwanese Hakka Romanization System: ngiau pin kagˋ gaˇ faˋ), also known as Shangrao Hakka (), is a dialect of Hakka Chinese spoken in Raoping, Guangdong, as well as Taiwan. Distribution In Raoping County, Hakka is spoken in the north, including the towns of Shangshan, Shangrao, Raoyang, Jiucun, Jianrao, and Xinfeng, as well as some villages in Hanjiang Forest Farm. As of 2005, there are 190,000 Hakka speakers in Raoping County (19% of the county's population). The distribution of Raoping Hakka in Taiwan is scattered.
