European University Association
The European University Association (EUA) represents more than 800 institutions of higher education in 48 countries, providing them with a forum for cooperation and exchange of information on higher education and research policies. Members of the Association are European universities involved in teaching and research, national associations of rectors and other organisations active in higher education and research. EUA is the result of a merger between the ''Association of European Universities'' and the ''Confederation of European Union Rectors' Conferences''. The merger took place in Salamanca on 31 March 2001. Membership The following is a breakdown of EUA membership by country: In March 2022, the EUA suspended 12 Russian members following the 2022 address of the Russian Union of Rectors (RUR) supporting the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, for being "diametrically opposed to the European values that they committed to when joining EUA”. Association Of Arab And European Universities
The Association of Arab and European Universities (AEUA) is a university association based in The Hague, Netherlands. The AEAU encourages links between European and Arab universities. It was established in 1998 by the Lutfia Rabbani Foundation with the main objective if aiding collaboration between universities in Arab and European countries at the university, faculty, and departmental levels. Ultimate goal is to develop human resources and promote understanding between cultures and exchanges between the civil societies involved. In 2000, the AEUA was incorporated formally under Dutch law with support from the Association of Arab Universities located in Amman, Jordan and the European University Association located in Brussels, Belgium. Both these organizations have representatives on the Board of the AEUA. The European Students' Union (ESU) is the umbrella organisation of 45 national unions of students from 40 countries, representing almost 20 million students. A consultative member of the Bologna Process, ESU is also a full member of the European Youth Forum (YFJ). History On 17 October 1982, seven National Unions of Students (NUSes) from the United Kingdom, Sweden, Iceland, France, Denmark, Norway and Austria established the Western European Students Information Bureau (WESIB) at a gathering in Stockholm. EURASHE (European Association of Institutions in Higher Education) is a members' based organisation gathering universities of applied sciences, university colleges, as well as national and sectorial associations and other higher education institutions that offer programmes with a strong involvement of the world of work and conduct applied research within the Bologna cycles. The association was founded in Patras, Greece in 1990. It has the status of a non-profit international association under Belgian law. The European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), formerly the European Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, was established as an organization to represent quality assurance and accreditation organisations from the European Higher Education Area and internationally. Activities In 2003, the Ministers of the Bologna process asked ENQA to elaborate "an agreed set of standards, procedures and guidelines" for higher education.
