Astro Boy
''Astro Boy'', known in Japan by its original name , is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka. It was serialized in Kobunsha's ''Shōnen'' from 1952 to 1968. The 112 chapters were collected into 23 '' tankōbon'' volumes by Akita Shoten. Dark Horse Comics published an English translation in 2002. The story follows Astro Boy, an android young boy with human emotions who is created by Umataro Tenma after the recent death of his son Tobio. Eventually, Astro is sold to a robot circus run by Hamegg, but is saved from his servitude by Professor Ochanomizu. Astro becomes a surrogate son to Ochanomizu who creates a robotic family for Astro and helps him to live a normal life like an average human boy, while accompanying him on adventures. The Original Astro Boy
''The Original Astro Boy'' is a twenty-issue 1980s comic book series (with one ''Astro Boy'' short story in Speed Racer #17) by NOW Comics, based on the original Japanese '' Mighty Atom'' series by Osamu Tezuka. The series was based mostly on the 1963 ''Astro Boy'' anime series, but began to include elements from the 1980 series in later issues. The comic went through three writers and artists, and embellished the original plotline, despite only covering the first episode of the 1963 series. Main story The series begins with Dr. Boynton ( Doctor Tenma) putting together Astro Boy, and immediately adopting him under the name "Astor." After only a few days, Boynton becomes fed up with Astro's cold, unchildlike behavior, and plans to shut down and discard him. Tankōbon
is the Japanese term for a book that is not part of an anthology or corpus. In modern Japanese, the term is most often used in reference to individual volumes of a manga series: most series first appear as individual chapters in a weekly or monthly manga anthology with other works before being published as volumes containing several chapters each. Action Figures
An action figure is a poseable character model figure made most commonly of plastic, and often based upon characters from a film, comic book, military, video game or television program; fictional or historical. These figures are usually marketed toward boys and adult collectors. The term was coined by Hasbro in 1964 to market G.I. Joe to boys (while competitors called similar offerings ''boy's dolls''). According to a 2005 study in Sweden, action figures which display traditional masculine traits primarily target boys. While most commonly marketed as a child's toy, the action figure has gained widespread acceptance as collector item for adults. Astro Boy (1980s)
, sometimes referred to as , is a color remake of the 1960s anime black-and-white series of the same name(s); both series are adapted from the manga series by Osamu Tezuka. This series places more focus on Astro's robotic abilities and has a darker tone than previous incarnations of the series. Although this series places much more emphasis on action scenes than the first one, the theme of "robots with hearts" is still prevalent in this anime. It is also the last ''Astro Boy'' work that Tezuka himself wrote and directed, and the humor of the story and direction that is typical of Tezuka can be seen throughout. The English dubs cut out some of the series' more violent moments, such as Astro being beheaded in the episode "Lilly on Peligro Island" and Blackie Young and his crew destroying the robot guard and factory owner in the episode "Blackie Young". is a Japanese animation studio founded by Osamu Tezuka in 1968. It is known for animating notable works such as ''Marvelous Melmo'', the 1980 and 2003 ''Astro Boy'' series, and '' Black Jack''. Mushi Production
or Mushi Pro for short, is a Japanese animation studio headquartered in Fujimidai, Nerima, Tokyo, Japan. It previously had a headquarters elsewhere in Nerima. is Traditional animation, hand-drawn and computer animation, computer-generated animation originating from Japan. Manga ( Japanese: 漫画 ) are comics or graphic novels originating from Japan. Go Astro Boy Go!
is an animated television spin-off of the ''Astro Boy'' franchise created by Osamu Tezuka. Aimed at preschoolers, the series was executive produced by Something Big for Tezuka Productions. The series had its global debut in China on MangoTV on August 2, 2019. In Japan, the series premiered on TX Network stations on October 3, 2019. Production During the 2014 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Tezuka Productions announced it was developing new episodes of '' Little Astro Boy'', an earlier iteration of the franchise aimed at preschool audiences.
